I feel like this story had a lot of potential that fell flat. The plot was an interesting concept that I was excited to read. But the characters just felt way too robotic. A lot of their dialogue felt corny or inauthentic. Admittedly I did cry, but I felt like it was more from personal stuff that related to what was happening in the book. I also got the sense that this was written as movie or tv bait, because I think it would work better as a script than a novel. The prose was just lacking.

This wasn't my cup of tea. Easy to read and a somewhat engaging plot, but I hated all the characters. Dannie was obnoxious, selfish and a terrible friend. I had no personal investment in her outcome and felt emotionally unattached to the story as a whole. I appreciate what the author was attempting and this led to some interesting discussion, (I read this for a book club) but I think the author was trying too hard to do something 'different'. I respect the conclusion and can see how others might really enjoy this, but it's a pass for me.

Nothing says I love my best friend like
Spoiler sleeping with her fiancé a week after she dies of cancer.

I literally have nothing else to say on the matter. 💀
