I really liked reading this book that tells about the things people see from their window in a Favela in Brazil. Lots of things they did were similar but different from my own life. I think students would enjoy reading about what other people around the world see from their window.

The artwork makes this book. The young narrator shares all the he sees and hears from his window in the his favela. But the collage like illustrations tell the story so much better than his words.

This book is beautiful. Not only does Junior share his love of his country, but his love of growing up. Looking through ones window and actually seeing what is going around you takes more than imagination; it takes courage.

There is so much going on in the artwork in this book! While beautiful and vivid, it was a little overwhelming for me. I loved learning about favelas in Brazil and about the author's and illustrator's journey of creating this book.

Colorful illustrations, my 9 year old guessed it was in Brazil right away

Really, really love this! Would be great and accessible for younger kids in a 'house/home' themed storytime, and can provide more depth (nice backmatter as well) with the older children. I received a free e-ARC from Edelweiss+ in exchange for an honest review.

This 2020 book won an outstanding international book award, it has beautiful colorful illustrations. I think it spoke beautifully about favellas and even showed how sometimes looking out isn’t the safest! I definitely recommend this book

A boy looks out his window in his Brazilian neighborhood and describes what he sees; his neighbors, fireflies at night, a rainbow, the sunrise. He and his friends play a telephone game, fly kites, play soccer, sing funk music, and carry their books to school.

This book was okay. I liked the story and the rich Brazilian culture, but I did not like the art style. It's too busy and the people look weird. Their anatomy is distorted in strange ways, and they have very awkward poses in each scene. Each scene has a background full of color and details that overwhelm the page. My eye couldn't rest on any one thing. A lot of the background details look like they are copy and pasted onto the scene. Every bird looks the same as the other birds, just copy and pasted and zoomed to be larger or smaller. On EVERY page.

The text is sweet and full of the richness of Brazilian life. I like how simply the narrator describes the neighborhood and the people. It's this appreciation for the little things that makes this book special. I just really disliked the art style.
