Dark, but broken by moments of excellent humor. If you don't mind dark, this is an excellent first book in a series that promises to be one of my favorites.

The only small complaint I have is that tracks through deep snow don't disappear when the wind isn't blowing, especially not when it's a completely still night. But for the plot to work, it had to be that way.

Characters were strong, plot was good, and crimes felt real. My only wish is that was a bit less intense. This novel can be a bit hard to take is saved only by the humor.
