really really good! i read this book a couple times when i was younger and i remember really loving it, and it definitely held up! the atmosphere is perfect, the night gardener sufficiently spooky, the writing wonderful, etc! i wish there were more illustrations but i feel that way for every single book in the world. ah well.

The premise of this book was interesting. I really liked both Kip and Molly, and I thought the growth and characterization of the family they stayed with was good. The setting really came off the page for me, and I found the book both creepy and fun to read. Overall, an enjoyable middle-grade scary book.
Moderate: Ableism
Minor: Grief
The main characters of the book, who are both Irish, also face a considerable amount of hate and discrimination as the main setting of the book is Victorian England.elisabethd8a's review
