The SA/rape is narrated from a past experience by the survivor to the MC. It’s not super graphic but the adult survivor was a child at the time and it’s still potentially triggering. The sexual harassment is pretty graphic

(dude says creepy things about sperm while masturbating covertly without the MC realizing at first)

, happens to MC in a current scene, and left me nauseous. There is also a graphic description of MC describing having consensual sex with a past bf while being sex-repulsed. The acephobia comes into play when MC narrates how others tried to get her to view or try sex different ways instead of accepting she just isn’t in to sex.

One of the best books I’ve ever read. A very thoughtful look at women’s role in their own lives, the things women feel forced to do in society and whether or not they can do those things truly for themselves - especially as it comes to having children , the morality behind it and the guise of freedom behind it — what it means to be a woman and if there’s any escape from those expectations even via defying the roles or the gender entirely — how women thrive under their own power despite the practically zero help outside of their own community of other women —  incredible book could go on for hours , will have to reread :)

 There is very little exposition in the book, which I think made the book more interesting and keeps you wanting to continue reading. As the reader, you’re always trying to figure out what has happened and the motives and feelings of each character based on the character’s actions and what they say. This book is split up in to two parts, Book 1 and Book 2. I did not expect to finish the book based on the pacing and content of Book 1, but Book 1 is much shorter than Book 2. I enjoyed Book 2 a lot more because the characters were in a better situation and the subject matter of Book 2 was more interesting. However, Book 2 rarely reference the events that had occurred in Book 1, which I found odd. When you are reading through Book 2, Book 1 just feels like a very distant memory that you have of the characters, which is an interesting way to develop the characters with the reader.
