3.45 stars. Might round up to 4 eventually. Cute Romeo and Juliet retelling for the modern comic book nerds. I’m not really in that crowd, but I can still appreciate the effort!

UGHHH.

I'm upset because this book had the potential to be so much better than it actually was, and I fear I only have myself to blame for not having liked it because everyone and their mother talks wonders about it. The premise was so good — a modern Romeo and Juliet story with comic books. I know, right?

I just couldn't get into it. I didn't care about the characters, I didn't care about the romance, the comic book universe didn't pull me into it as much as I hoped it would. I'm sorry.

This was...fine. Deeply similar to every other G-rated contemporary romance complete with a breakup for a stupid reason 85% of the way through and completely unnecessary friend drama to pad the page count

This book is so forgettable even a few hours after finishing it I'm ??? Whomst??

Comics Will Break Your Heart is about a girl named Miriam who has a family that should be rich. Her grandfather was a co-creater of an extremely popular comic series, only he sold his rights for barely anything in the '60s. Now that the series is getting a big budget movie, Miriam can't help but be bitter because she needs money for college. Things get more complicated when a new boy comes into town, and happens to be the grandson of the man who screwed over Miriam's grandfather.

While the storyline of the family rival was interesting enough, (and hilariously I'm just now learning this is a modern Romeo and Juliet situation) it was also pretty lame? It has the same energy of when you stumble across a random wikipedia entry and you read that and then you just go, "wtf why am I reading this who cares" and you click out to something more interesting. There were other topics like rich vs the poor, small town woes, college. I think the author was trying something but it didn't work.

Miriam and Weldon were so annoying and I never bought their romance for a second. It was SO forced and everything was just so fake. There is no drama in this relationship, or in this book and no tension at all. Everything was so flat and boring. This just wasn't it.

Miriam and Weldon. Her grandfather is the co-creator of the TomorrowMen comics. The other co-creator, his grandfather. His grandfather pulls some shady crap and her grandfather's rights are bought for $900. His grandfather becomes rich which leads to generational wealth and all that jazz, which then leads to a 20 year court battle and two feuding families. Miriam and Weldon meet by chance and so their love story begins.

This was slice of life. It was a fun and easy read. Both Miriam and Weldon come with baggage and they both have to do the work to get through it. They are both young and so this is not a story that is going to have all the answers. I liked it. This is YA so they were botha annoying at times but it didn't last too long.

The original copy was received via Netgalley. The actual copy read for this review was my library.

A story of star-crossed lovers for Comic-Con fans. Two men create the TomorrowMen, which becomes a media giant, but the artist sells his share early on and legal battles ensue. Their grandchildren meet years later, and their relationship becomes stained as their families' pasts interfere. A decent YA read. Bit of a cheesy ending, but sweet. The romance between the leads is sweet, and not overly sexy. The characters are nicely complex, showing a range of feelings towards their families' pasts and futures. Something just didn't land right, though. Nothing really bad to say, but nothing great to say either. Just an okay, middle of the road read.

really quick read, very cute. Definitely had some pacing issues and some characters got lost when the plot had no more need for them, but overall a nice read.
Also love that Faith Erin Hicks drew the comic book cover art!!
