The longer I listened, the more problems I had with the story. So many things seemed to happen entirely because it would be inconvenient for the main character if they happened at that time, without making sense within the premise of the story. For instance,
birds are affected by the creatures and kill themselves, yet 4 years after the creatures arrive and most humans seem to be dead, there are still birds all over the place so they can kill themselves for a shocking scene.
I'm not saying don't give characters challenges, I just like it to happen in a way that doesn't feel like there is no consistency to the setting and premise.

I still think about this book sometimes. Which is maybe good for it, cause it had some staying power in my mind? But my thoughts are mostly about how much it annoyed me, a trait it shares with Just Like Home by Sarah Gailey, which is my least favorite book I've actually finished.
