Another fabulous addition to the series by C. B. Samet. While each Rider Files book is a stand alone with a complete story, there are secondary character arcs that run through and these are best read/listened to in order.

Samet always writes strong & intelligent women, this time she takes it a step further with Mica McMillan. Mica is a Private Investigator who happened to go to high school with Dr. David Rider (David is Max Rider’s son, Max is the owner of Rider Investigations) and they meet again when Mica is brought in by ambulance to David’s ER. They soon find out that many paths in their lives have converged and begin to spend a great deal of time together investigating or running from threats.

What I loved about this is that not only is Mica completely capable of taking care of herself, but David admires and respects her for it. Even when he’s concerned for her safety. Samet includes a lot of suspense and numerous action scenes, a bit of mystery, and a budding romance. David and Mica are so adorable in their interactions and this was a fun love story to experience. While that seems incongruous to romantic suspense, Samet writes it perfectly and I truly enjoyed the entire book.

We again get small updates from previous characters and continue to learn more about those who have books coming. My biggest conundrum is whether to read Claire’s story, Maltisse File, now or hold out for the audiobook.

Quentin Hudspeths’s narration was excellent. He gives all the characters their own voices, accents, and personalities. He did a fantastic job evoking emotion and tension where appropriate. Hudspeth posted to Twitter that this is his first audiobook narration – I’m incredibly impressed and hope to hear more from him in the future.

After listening to Meridian File, I immediately purchased all four available Rider Files ebooks. However, I did receive a free copy of this audiobook from Story Origin and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

McMillan File
The Rider Files, Book 3
By: CB Samet
Narrated by: Quentin Hudspeth

Book 3 of the Rider Files had me on the edge of my seat as I listened. Each book in the series a standalone, I was pleased to listen and find a few crossover characters I recognized from book 1. Samet gives us Mica and David for this story. An extremely strong female heroine, Mica is a PI who doesn't have time for relationships. David is a doctor who's life entangles with Mica, not only medically. These two find themselves intertwined as Mica protects David from a hit, but they find there is more to their relationship than just work. It's fast pace, thrilling action with a fantastic plot and romantic.

Quentin Hudspeth is a new narrator to me, and I really enjoyed his interpretation of the story. Easy dialogue, voices matching the character and good pacing made for hours of entertainment.

I could not put this book down! These characters are so well painted we feel like we know them. Mica McMillian is well suited to her childhood moniker of "Wonder Woman". She is smart, well trained, and has a moral compass that points true north. But this story is about David too, a healer trying to help people. When they come together they are both wary and this reads realistically. Their romance is slow, sweet and action packed, but only part of the huge storyline filled with mystery and suspense. Anyone who likes James Bond or Alias this book is for you!
