I really enjoyed this one. The story was complex and still surprising though it covered real issues. It explored some very important and intricate themes with grace. I appreciated using India to live out the duality of the two female protagonists and how caste/religion/society/tradition shape a person's course yet you always have a choice over your own personal self, even if that choice is still somewhat limited by circumstance. I think this book could be used for an interest lesson with The Crucible on studying honor (a name and a word), feminism, religion, and societal influence.

A great read outlining how frustrating discriminations based on castes, religion, status are. Additionally the main characters struggle about returning to a country she's avoided calling her own and dissociated herself from really stood out. Only took a star off because i felt the romance component didn't need to be there to make this book stand out.

This book is so beautiful and so devastatingly heartbreaking. I couldn’t put it down. I found myself folding laundry and doing dishes every evening this week just so I could keep listening. The narrator was superb. She voiced each character perfectly.
