I don't want to think about what Public Health would say about monkeys helping box chocolates, but I imagine that's not a thought that would distract a child!

Once again, George solves a problem entirely caused by him and is rewarded in the end. There is an insanely low bar set with regard to his behavior in these books.

Curious George books were always a favorite of my children when they were young.  So much fun reading about the monkey who gets into trouble or mischief without even trying. Love Curious George's adventure into the Chocolate Factory.

"He saved our chocolates!"

No he didn't. He contaminated your factory chocolates with his monkey fur. Don't you dare think about selling those! He also screwed up your machine, making it go haywire in the first place!

This just in: Area mother does not have much of a sense of humor when it comes to ruined chocolate.

Curious George recreates an I Love Lucy episode, speeding up a chocolate candy conveyor belt, stuffing his face to keep up, and saving the day - by packing candy into boxes with his toes. Personally I'd rather not consume chocolate touched by monkey feet, but maybe people in George's world are into it. That's only one of the mysteries in this story! Others include how the machine makes squiggles (George never finds out) and how the conveyor belt gets back to its normal setting at the end. Plus, you know, the logistics of a stray monkey wandering around a food processing facility.

A couple cool things about this book: First, it lists a "squiggle code" that claims the decorative designs atop boxed chocolates indicate the candy's flavor. If this is true, Valentine's Day just got a lot more delicious! (No more bite testing to find the best flavors!) Second, the machines in the factory all had mechanical faces! The kids I read the book to had fun finding as many as they could. Third, there's a weird recipe for chocolate noodle bird's nest (???) on the back cover. Pretty cool!

Kids really like this story, as usual he gets into a lot of trouble. I cant help but thinking (as an adult) how unsanitary it would be to have a monkey box chocolates with his bare hands :)
