From the first time that I picked up these books I've been in love with the writing. I love that they took a cartoon that had strong lady characters and made them even better. This strange but very fun sci-fi kind of alternative reality storyline is really excellent. I get to see all those side characters that I knew from my childhood given new looks, new motivations that make them into more compelling people and a great environment for them to play in. If you are a fan of 80s cartoons, and especially this one, please do yourself the favor of picking anything in these series up. It's an excellent take and manages to pay homage to the original that I love while taking it into new territory that makes it even better!

3.5. Some good backstories (Stormer battling fatphobia, most of the women had parents die when they were young, Rox can’t read), and we got to see another side of the band where they actually all like each other. It was a good break from ahem, which is starting to feel repetitive.

This was SO GOOD. Each issue focused on a different Misfits's story, and I loved getting to know all of them better. It was totally wonderful, and Stormer is basically me.

Being a girl of a certain age, I have been a fan of Jem and the Holograms and the Misfits for ages. And I love the comic update. This takes place after the main run of the IDW series with a focus on how the Misfits formed. It's great to flesh out the characters even more. The Misfits are the sole focus; there's not even a Hologram cameo. These issues have the art back on track following a weird turn in the main run. On to the Infinite and Dimensions issues.

Remember that cartoon Jem and the Holograms? Apparently, they have a comic book now. I haven't read that. Remember their arch-nemesis band, the punk to combat Jems' pop, the Misfits? They also have a book now, and this is it.

I kind of made myself finish this. It wasn't bad or anything I was just not that into it.

Man. I love Thompson's writing and I love the Misfits, but I am not excited about the introduction of a reality TV show (my least favorite thing).

If you didn't already love The Misfits, this book will change your mind. Each member is given their own chapter to show how they were recruited into the band, and which obstacles they've wrestled with to get there. The Misfits may be a mess but they're also a family, a point that was always pushed but now feels much more genuine after this edition to the series.
