Kind of creepy. But I really liked following Kendall & her softening toward Jacian. Nice quick read. Soccer loving is a bonus.

I liked this book. It was suspenseful and had some romance on the side. The little twist on this otherwise straight forward sort of tale of haunting, is that the main character has obsessive compulsive disorder (ocd). I've read Wake by McMann and liked it to. This is a good read for those teens who like spooky, but not too spooky...

This is the first book by Lisa McMann that I've read. I heard great things about her Wake trilogy and I plan to read it one day.

Cryer's Cross is about a small town where nothing big really happens. But when suddenly two teenagers disappear within six months of each other everyone is afraid. Kendall has a lot to deal with because of her struggle with OCD. It is hard for her to handle things that do not fall into a routine. The first thing that disturbs her OCD is the disappearance of Tiffany, then it's the disappearance of her best friend Nico.

Kendall is determined, brave, courageous, and smart. She wants to overcome her OCD and make a better life for herself outside of Cryer's Cross. She has to take things day by day because of her illness but it doesn't stop her from trying to live life. She loves to play soccer and dance.

I'm not really sure how I would categorize Cryer's Cross, in some ways it's a horror story but it wasn't that scary, and it's a mystery. I was more interested in the characters, specifically Kendall and Jacian than the horror element or the mystery aspect. Those came second to whatever was happening with the characters. The only redeeming quality I found for the book was the relationship that develops between Kendall and Jacian. Yet, the characters weren't multifaceted and they didn't change very much from the beginning of the story. Jacian changed the most, but it was mostly opening up to Kendall not necessarily a complete growth of character.

If you like Lisa McMann's writing style then you will love Cryer's Cross. Just creepy enough. Keeps pulling you in and you don't want to stop reading. Finishes too fast but you have closure. She doesn't waste words and nothing drags on and on. Really liked Kendall and have a fictional crush on Jacian.

I LOVED the characters, the storytelling, the way the author handled the MC's OCD, the development of the relationships. The premise didn't do it for me, is the thing. I just couldn't really buy it. BUT, I still enjoyed the read.
