Decent enough book on writing. The chapters were pretty hit or miss. When they hit, they were really good (e.g., the chapters on characters and plot), but when they didn't they weren't so great (e.g., the chapters on story and fantasy). It's a different look at novel from a writing point-of-view since it's more focused on the novel as genre than how to actually write it, but it was definitely a helpful perspective to read.

Rating: 3.5 Stars (Good).

I don't want to doubt Forster's talents, but this book is honestly a boring read. I am beginning to agree with Stephen King more and more with each day. There should be a story or at least an interesting way to tell something.

Aspect of the Novel is really going back and forth all the time. No structure... I managed to stand 1/3 of it. Maybe one day "I'll grow-up" and be able to go back to this book, maybe not.

Wouldn't recommend it actually. People, read Stephen King's "On Writing". It's way more useful in all possible aspects.

A classic. Even though some parts, language-wise, are a bit awkward to read nowadays, the core aspects still are as relevant today as they were a century ago. Even if you’re not interested in what constitutes a good novel, just read this one for the way the author/teacher/critic talks. Great fun!
