I can appreciate this book for what it is - revolutionary for its time, politically piercing and gripping.

I had my predictions for who dunnit. I finished it in a single sitting.

I just don't think plot-driven murder mysteries with a huge ensemble cast are my thing. I prefer character-driven development and I really want to care about the fate of the people I'm spending time with.

It was an easy read, but not super satisfying.

I would just like to say that my review is based solely on the writing, plot, etc. and not the author. The author is extremely racist and I would not have read this if I had to pay for it, I got it from the library. But that aside, I enjoyed the plot and overall concept a ton. However I was able to guess the ending slightly which was disappointing.

I honestly had no idea who the killer was until the very end of the epilogue. Ten people are invited to this mysterious island by a U.N. Owens, for different reasons. The doctor was to attend to the owner's wife's health. One was hired for a job. The one thing all of the characters have in common is that they are all guilty of murder, but cannot be convicted by the law. Following the pattern of deaths laid out by a children's poem, one chokes to death, one never wakes up, one went crazy, one was cut by an axe, one was stung, one was in trouble with the law, one fell for a red herring, a bear killed one, another freaked out and was killed, and the last went mad and killed themselves. There were only 10 people on the island, and all of them are dead by the end. However, the last person kicked over a chair to kill themselves, and the detectives found the chair upright, standing orderly by the wall. So who could have killed everyone? There was no place to hide from the inhabitants, and no one was left alive on the unreachable island when the detectives showed up. So who could have killed them? The only person who was truly innocent of the supposed murder they committed and wanted to take justice into their own hands.

WOW! What a great introduction to Agatha Christie. In 'And Then There Were None' we follow a group of ten strangers who all get invited to Soldier Island by someone they believe to know. Our group has been invited to this secluded island by Mrs. and Mr. U.N. Owen, and quickly realize that things aren't what they seem. During their first night, a recording is played accusing them of their crimes tt they have committed - of course, they all deny the accusation but suspicions have been raised.

I loved how the killings started immediately, I can't stand when a book has this premise but you don't get any real mystery until halfway through. I also loved the poem that was included about the ten little soldiers and how it foreshadows all of the deaths - this clearly was a well planned out mystery. Whenever I thought I had the "big reveal" figured out, I was wrong! This truly kept me on my toes and kept me guessing until the very end when all is revealed.

I enjoyed how tense this book made me feel, it always kept me guessing as to who would be next. I will admit that I had a hard time following at first as this book is mainly written in dialogue and since we had a grand group of guests it was hard to follow who was who. As the book progressed (for obvious reasons), it was easier to grasp who was left.
