I don’t know why but there was something about this that I liked. The plot was weird but I somehow really connected to the writing and I couldn’t stop reading, even at the boring parts. It was interesting to see the story of a male victim of a sexual assault/kidnapping and I feel like the book actually handled the trauma pretty well. He starts off with escapism and eventually goes towards healing through finding love and dance and I feel like it was very sweet somehow. One thing I didn’t like was the ending- I wish the book had ended somewhere around him and Juliette meeting Isabel, instead of whatever the fuck happened at the end. While I can understand the motivation I just don’t think it was necessary. There were other ways for him to come to terms with his assault and being open about it.
Graphic: Body horror, Confinement, Drug use, Gore, Rape, Sexual assault, Sexual violence, Slavery, Torture, Blood, Kidnapping, and Injury/Injury detail

I felt the narrative trailed off before the halfway point, but the book is beautifully written, one of those rare novels where you really feel every word has been chosen with care.

This is an unusual and disturbing book, which was refreshing. You didn't know where it was going to go next and that kept me reading.
