WOW OKAY. I had seen everyone talking about this, and it sounded great, but if it's even possible I loved it more than I thought I would. Especially with everything surrounding J.K. Rowling, I'm so excited for the future of Amari and her world. It's exactly what we need right now.

This was a fun and lighthearted read and i loved the representation and show of friendship in this one.
i am obviously not part of the target audience for this book and could see where the plot was going very early on in the story.(which is probably why i was bored for a good 1/4th of the book.)
I do though, think this is a bit too long as a middle grade book and could be much more exciting if were made shorter.

WOO!! You know when you read a book and you’re just like. How can ANYTHING top this?? This book. THIS BOOK. Is that book. I just barely guessed who the bad guy was and there were so many twists and turns that were so cleverly written that really, I was second guessing myself the entire time. The characters were phenomenal and it was so exciting. This is exactly the kind of fantasy book I would’ve loved growing up, and I’m definitely sharing it with all my kids.

Edited: I reread this in 2023 (on audio) to prepare to
Read book two and this still tracks at 5⭐️ for me. Exciting, adventurous, who do you trust and who will be a traitor? Great read again

Amari is a delightful protagonist, her story is one that anyone can read and enjoy.

First in a series, this book is full of action and brand new magic that was a lot of fun to explore.
A mystery throughout and with some twists I didn’t expect. Very much looking forward to book 2
