reread for my epics unit and im going crazy im crawling up the walls im pulling my hair out. literally this is the book ever of all time. oh homer <333. oh fagles <333. i need to know greek so bad :(((((.

below is my review when i first read it a couple years back at 16. i didnt have a clue. also i read the samuel butler which is from like, 1898 so pls its not all my fault i didnt Get It like i kinda do now.

weird (obv i Knew it would be. its old as hell) but enjoyable, very funny at times, although im sure when homer wrote those parts he didnt intend them to be

honestly it didnt translate very well into modern times??? like i loved it but it was just so silly and foreign.

its late and i would write a proper review but hey.

also homer doesnt actually know what a woman is? like again. its an old ass book. he lived a long time ago. but hes still incredibly sexist

So I started to read this for a class forever ago and never finished it, but I just randomly decided I should probably finish it before I finish college. So here it is...I finished it...I definitely liked it more than the Odyssey and the Aeneid but I dunno it was still something I was making myself read so there's only so much enjoyment that can come from that??

I have not read the other translations, but in any case I would not advise this one, as even though it is more "modern" than one might expect from the text the language used is very jarring at times.

Didn't enjoy this as much as the Odyssey.

I had to read this for my Ancient Translations class at my university for this past month. I'd say that this is quite an easy translation to understand, and allows for a wider audience to read such an ancient epic. I would have enjoyed more interesting language due to the book's heavy repetition, but overall it wasn't a terrible read. My professor's professor actually wrote the introduction!

I love Greek Mythos, but this was just straight forward a history of part of the last year of the Trojan War, so it wasn't as interesting as I was hoping.

A very important book for Western civilization. Also very slow, in my opinion. Too many chapters of so-and-so stabbing so-and-so. Was really looking forward to reading about Achilles' rage and his forgiveness of Hector. Instead, I got 23 chapters of names of people who died in war and 1.5 chapter(s) on Achilles and Priam (Hector's dad). If the book wasn't so important, I would have given up halfway.
