"Family. It didn't matter how much you damned them, tried to forget them. Those who raised you -- or failed to -- for better or worse, were with you forever, clawing at your heart." - Owen, during the time he needed to vent out all his frustration/sadness by playing the violin at the park, before meeting up Christian West.

The continuation of the Doctor's Secret starts off with a peek of the past when Erin first "met" Owen and giving a small backstory about how Erin and Nick knew each other, which fades into two other times Erin "met" Owen before we're brought into present-day after Hong-Wei/Jack proposed to Simon and Erin rescinded the "no dating" rule.

Not as fun as the first book, but I felt that both Erin and Owen were kind of faceless. The fact that the first image that came to mind when talking about Owen from the first book was the Own from Total Drama Island. Complete random, but at the same time, with very little detailed description of how Erin and Owen look, it made it difficult to imagine this.

What I love about this book, it's not completely a side story of the first book, it does continue the storyline from the first book, but a more focus perspective on Erin Andreas, Owen Gagnon, and their childhood backstories (with some set up between both Jared and Nicolas for the final book). Overall, the plot between Erin and Owen seems over-the-top (a bit more as Hong-Wei and Simon), but a decent plot.

I did take a peek at several reviews and noticed some negative feedback, but come on. This is a sappy LGBT romance novel, the only thing I expect from these books are raunchy detailed love scenes, which only has happened once in each book (the first encounter), and the rest were just kind of brushed under the carpet.

I love hearing Iggy Toma narrate a book by Heidi Cullinan.  There were scenes in the first chapter when I was laughing as I was on my walk.

I liked the overarching plot progress in this installment, and I liked each MC, how they helped each other. The bad guy's creepy and the resolution (I knew the answer) was satisfying. The book could've used a better line edit, and some things are over-explained, but overall this one's very good. On to #3.

The Doctor's Date is the second book in the Copper Point Medical series by Heidi Cullinan. It features Erin Andreas and Dr. Owen Gagnon. Erin is the HR director of the hospital but he is still very much under his father’s thumb. Growing up he was shoved away from his mother and pretty much ignored by his father unless he did something his father didn't approve of. He appears weak and spineless with his father, however where Owen is concerned, he is a firecracker who can hold his own. Owen, who was once a violin prodigy, gave it all up and became an anaesthesiologist instead of a musician. Scarred physically and emotionally from abusive parents, he is a terror to be around and makes everyone afraid of him. Except Erin. Erin who argues and stands up to him on a regular basis. Owen believes Erin doesn't care much for him until he bids an excessive amount of money at the hospital’s Bachelor Auction.

After seeing Owen in the first book, I was really in a hurry for his story. While coming across like an ogre, he is really a teddy bear to the people he loves and respects. He is loyal to a fault and wants nothing but to make sure his friends are cared for. I personally ended up disliking Erin throughout most of the first book, however we learn the reason why he is stiff and somewhat cold towards others except Nick. I was glad that he ended up making friends and had a solid support system by the end of the book. He and Owen made an adorable couple and I cannot wait to see more of them in the next book.

As I said, I was in a hurry for this book and the wait was rewarded with this amazing story. I felt for both Owen and Erin. They both overcame such horrible backgrounds and were both successful and while they did need support, they both reached out and accepted help from professionals and friends. I am very excited for Jared and Nick’s book, too. While we do know a bit about Nick, Jared is a mystery that I cannot wait to unravel. I really liked this book and I will reread it.

This novel first starts with Dr. Owen and hospital admin Erin (a man) as “enemies”, arguing at every opportunity. However, we soon find out that Erin has had a crush on Owen since his teenaged years. He wins the bid for a date with Owen at the hospital bachelor auction. Owen misunderstands the reason for the bid, and insists that Erin moves in with him. There is a fake relationship while they sort out their feelings for one another.

Both Owen and Erin have had terrible fathers and they work through this together. The secondary characters were in the first book in the series and supported the plot.

Heidi Cullinan provides more than a romance novel with a hospital internal investigation. This provided the tension in the story and the pacing was great.

I think that Erin is somewhere on the asexuality spectrum so the sex scenes are rather tame. I’m not sure how I felt about this: with the “sparks flying”, the romance element was less convincing.

I listened to the audiobook, and Iggy Toma did an excellent job with the narration. I wish Hoopla had the third book in the series available!

This novel features:

Workplace romance
Enemies to lovers
Fake relationship (brief)
Working through daddy issues
MC somewhere on the asexual sprectrum
