This is one of the better Miss Marple stories. None of the characters really stood out to me...nobody truly likable. However I liked the twists and turns.

Delightfully twisty as always. I liked how much Marple was involved this time 'round, she didn't just pop in at the end, as has happened occasionally before. I'll admit that I would have had a better time if the number of characters whose primary descriptors could be 'flaky, irritating' was reduced, but there were a number of points where such flighty tendencies were useful for plot purposes. Did not care for the level of xenophobia, there's a point at which 'foreign' being the primary way to describe someone makes it clear where the prejudices lay. Mitzi may have been characterized as a pill, but overall the lack of sympathy and the automatic suspicion shown to a refugee is nauseating. Also not fond of the way things landed for Philippa and Edmund -

sure she was hiding a not-dead husband, but nobody took seriously her claims as a seeming widow with a young son

that she wouldn't marry again, including her suitor, who in one scene evidenced stalker/work place harrassment behavior. Bleah.
If anyone's got modern comps for Christie - NOT thrillers, straight mysteries, cleverly plotted and more open minded, I'd appreciate them.
I'll keep Miss Marple, but there are a number of things about her time I would happily ditch.

Agatha Christie's books are so good, and this was no exception. I admit that I find them a little slow in the middle, but her endings are mind-blowing.
