This is such a great book. It's really uplifting and encouraging and you can't help but get excited by each new friendship and the photographs of the friends.
I wish the photos were a bit higher resolution. Each story is just a few pages (2-4) and perfect for a short attention span.

No one will ever again doubt an animal's capacity for emotions after reading this book.

My animal-loving daughter chose this one. I know there has been much criticism about anthropomorphizing animals, etc., and several of the "friendships" covered seemed more like animals expressing curiousity about the other (leopard seal, manta ray, koi) while other examples were of quite young animals with imprinting explaining some of that away. But still, others seemed to really "enjoy" each other for no other reason than they wanted to be together. I think in truth, we will never "know" what it is like to be another species or know how or if they "feel" emotion, but as a human it warms my heart to look for friendships in the world, wherever they occur.
This book has many, very sweet photographs that will elicit several "aw's" from any animal lover. A very quick read.

Don't read this for the writing but for the stories, so sweet and heartwarming. Lots of cuteoverload-worthy pics too.

This book would be great as a bathroom book - you or your guests can flip through pictures, maybe read a quick story while you're in there. It does have a lot of cute pictures, and kind of feels like it would make a good website. It's a mix of encouters (a couple of animals forced to hang out together for a few hours who cuddle up together) and real friendships that last for years. 2.5 stars.

tended to be boring after the first 10 of the 47 stories.
