This one has been sitting on my shelf for so long, I had completely forgotten what it was about! I’m actually kind of glad I went in blind!

What I enjoyed most was the uniqueness of the Diabolics. Nemesis was a compelling narrator because we got an inside glimpse of her struggle to understand who she was really was at odds with what she had always been told. It made her relationships mean so much more.

I’m not quite sure how I feel about the ending. I have my doubts still, but this IS a trilogy, so I suppose I’ll have to pick up the next two to figure out what happens next!

All in all, this was a page turner, action packed ride with a hint of romance and a lot of emotions. The “fight for the throne” motif made it such a great transitionary novel for someone like me who spends most of her time in the fantasy genre. Definitely recommend!

This book has my undivided attention. The character development and the twists and turns of every scene have me on my toes. It has all the elements of what I love about fantasy books, especially in the high fantasy genre, with political factions, fake couple relationship tropes, fighting scenes, a strong female heroine, and tactical and intellectual male characters—it reminds me of the Cruel Prince for some reason. This had a very futuristic setting, onset to living within the cosmos and galaxy where Earth no longer sustains human life. Though it took some time for me to process the terminologies, the novel's concept was really engrossing and impactful. I absolutely love the message conveyed by this: "find yourself, your own truth." I can't wait to read book two.

Okay so i got this book because Chloe Gong said on her tiktok that it was really good so of course I had to buy it. I just finished it like a minute ago and I'm still processing this was really really good. I'd say it's pretty fast paced and I love the main character nemesis (i love her name too). She had great character development and is literally so cool. I have to say this book was a lot like The Cruel Prince, but it's in space in the future and there are obviously many elements that are different. I really think the ideas and the characters as well as some plot points are very similar though. This is not a bad thing; I love The Cruel Prince it's literally my favorite book so I have really high expectations for the next two books in this series, The Empress and The Nemesis.

This universe was really interesting. The plot was pretty predictable, but I still enjoyed it. It's a classic political intrigue plot but taking place in this world that's ahead of us technologically but doesn't value knowledge- very cool

  • underwhelming, could've been better
  • not exactly homophobic, but i'm pretty sure they pulled a bury your gays
  • the court intrigue was enjoyable, but lord it was not convincing?? the concept was there, but the execution??? sloppy
  • where are the content warnings??? they should be on the cover ffs
  • would-be slow-burn wasn't executed well either, and really doesn't make any sense
  • also, i despise the narrative of strong female warriors becoming soft and shit for random men??? like what is the reason??
  • and lastly, the sci-fi changing your appearance elements were low-key racist
