First Lieutenant Thane Carter is in a serious online relationship with someone that he only knows as Ballerina Bun. She knows him as Drummer. They have cultivated a wonderful six-month relationship where their feelings are shooting past the friend zone. When they both encourage each other to make a real-life friend, Thane spots Chloe Michaels at a pool party and meets the woman of his dreams.

A most unfortunate thing happens. In short order, Thane realizes that she is his new co-worker, where there is a no fraternization policy amongst officers. Without any explanation, he shatters any illusion that they could develop anything beyond their all-too-brief encounter at the pool party. Before long, Thane realizes that Chloe is his “Ballerina Bun”, but he feels that he’s been bamboozled.

This is a quick, light read with a sad twinge as I couldn’t help but root for this couple to find a way to be together. I'm glad to say that this romance did not disappoint.

Let me say if it hadn't been for a Dear Author review here, I would never have read this book which would have been a pity. The old (and new) cover together with the Mills and Boon imprint would have turned me off. What do they say about not judging a book by its cover?

At heart this is a retelling/ reimagining of the film The Shop Around The Corner or the remake You've Got Mail. Thane Carter and Chloe Matthews have been corresponding using pseudonyms through an app for several months. She's BallerinaBaby and he's DifferentDrummer. Over the past few months the two of them have built up a wonderful friendship online based on shared taste in movies and humour. Little do they know that fate is going to bring them together as superior and subordinate MPs at Fort Hood. To add to the intrigue, they actually meet face to face at a block BBQ and really hit it off before Thane realised that the gorgeous woman he's been talking to MUST be the new duty MP in his brigade and therefore strictly off limits.

Just like the films it reimagine, in the book Thane is the one with all the knowledge, but it brings him a lot of pain too. I'm ashamed to say I had tears rolling down my face for at least the last 20 minutes of the book as Thane tries to protect Chloe's reputation by lying to her.

I loved it.

Edited because of numerous typos!

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange with an honest review. First I must say thank you for Harlequin that I got this book to read. I would hope that this will be translate in Finnish later.

I have read many books like this, so it was OK to read. Not big surprisies but also not with big disappointment. Maybe some parts were too rushed and maybe there was used many clichés but it doesn't matters. To me it was easy to understand what some words with military slang means but people who doesn't have life world like this, it might be harder thing to understand meanings.

The characters were nice without big surprise. When you have read many books like this, it can be even boring, but to me it was good time to relax and enjoy the book. Not the biggest book in the world but good when you need something easy to read. The plot was quite awesome but it needs something which doesn't make it too similar than everything else with military theme. But after this book, I understand why it is so popular and why many people will sometimes read books by Harlequin or like in Finland, by HarperCollins Nordic if even this book will be translate some day.

Thane and Chloe meet online. They are both MPs and end up in the same unit where fraternisation is not allowed. The story revolves around them discovering who each other is both in real life and online. I love this kind of trophe. This story was good. It dragged a bit and there are no sexy times at all but it was soppy and romantic and easy to read. I skimmed through some of the military bots though as that’s not usually my genre. It was a solid good read though.

I would like to thank netgalley and Harlequin for a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I found this way too sappy and the MC's fell in love and forgave each other far too fast.
