This was such a cozy book to read by the fireplace.

The Narrow Road between Desires by Patrick Rothfuss is a novella set in the world of the Kingkiller Chronicles following Bast, a demon connected to our protagonist in the main series. I will say, not much happens in this book, but that was perfectly okay with me. I really enjoyed how this book was just a vibe. Essentially, we follow our main character as he goes about a day in his life making deals with others and running errands. The writing was more my speed than the other novella in this series, The Slow Regard of Silent Things. I would definitely not recommend picking up this book first if you have not read anything else by this author yet, but the Kingkiller Chronicles remains one of my favorite series of all time, and I would highly recommend it.

It’s kind of amazing how this story did and did not change with the revisions. It enhanced all the things I loved, like the storyline with Rike, and it fixed the issues I had with Bast’s dalliances. Seriously an added paragraph or so completely changed the flavor of the interactions.
Overall, a big improvement from The Lightning Tree. Though of course it reminds me AGAIN that we need book 3!

The expansion of The Lightning Tree that Bast deserved. Thankful, as always, to have more Rothfuss to read
