Crucially important ideas for anyone who has felt secondary trauma, burnout, or 'compassion fatigue.' The writing isn't gripping -- I would find myself just reading the first sentences of each paragraph until I got to something that hit me. But I'm going to be talking about these ideas to everyone I collaborate with in organizing/activism crews.

It's more weighted toward the 'helping professions' (which at one point appears to include cops?) rather than what I'm familiar with -- people who non-professionally but with all their souls work for the well-being of others and the earth. In the sections about 'making the world a better place,' it focuses on 'social entrepreneurs' and non-profits. Is this just how people burned themselves out in 2009?

But the ideas are really applicable to social movement work. Check them out -- help make our movements more sustainable, more rooted in joy and well-being.

A great book for therapists to read through. It's an easy fast read that teaches creating intention and mindfulness with great examples from the field and from experts. The multiple perspectives and the five direction compass that the author brings in are excellent tools for navigating trauma in the healthcare field. I am reading this with a book club and am excited to discuss it in a group.
