‘After that I put some cold water on my face and dried it, the same face I had always had, the one I would have until I died.’

I get it guys! I get it. Her written voice is compelling. Even when things got repetitive, I still found the character voices and emotional atmosphere absorbing.

While reading this book I was really torn between liking and hating it and I'm still not sure. It wasn't what I expected, I think. The main thing that threw me off was Frances herself. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't bring up any sympathy for her or relate to her in any way. I simply didn't like her, but then again I didn't like any character in this book, really, and it makes me wonder if it's meant to be that way or if I just don't like Sally Rooneys writing. Then the other thing that bothered me, that hasn't really gotten much to do with the actual book, that I still feel the need to mention is, how in the show Nick is played by no other than Joe Alwyn and maybe that's just me but I definitely wouldn't describe him as, and I quote: "Handsome to an almost off-putting extent" but since I already knew Joe Alwyin played Nick I couldn't even imagine him as someone else and it made me relate to Frances even less, because why would you sleep with a married man if he looks like Joe Alwyn?

I was nervous to read Sally Rooney after reading and loving Normal People, but I think somehow I needed to read this books in the stage of life that im in right now. you have no time to think, this books just dives you into Frances’ life. I was completely sucked in even though on the surface I should not have been. I should have been confused and maybe even a but disturbed. It almost reminded me of The Stranger. I think if youre a woman in her 20s that loves to think and contemplate and desire, this book is for you.

the language's poetic at many times and the parts where they actually have conversations with friends are interesting. however a good part of the book is just really boring with clichés in the plot and a taste of pretentiouness wchich i'm not sure is always intentional. i almost gave up halfway through, but it got better again towards the end.

i wonder if this would've made bigger impact on me had i read it when it came out and i was 21 myself and life was messy like this. probably. thank god i'm not 21 anymore and also that all in all the book turned out to be worth reading with some truly beautiful lines in there!
