‘After that I put some cold water on my face and dried it, the same face I had always had, the one I would have until I died.’

I get it guys! I get it. Her written voice is compelling. Even when things got repetitive, I still found the character voices and emotional atmosphere absorbing.

I normally love Sally Rooney but this  book just made me so mad, frustrated and so many other things. It’s messy but almost too much so where the self loathing overtakes. Maybe listening to her books as audiobooks has kinda thrown off my perception of her writing but this wasn’t an enjoyable read for me at all.

Complex characters and messy plot make the best combo ever.
Conversations with Friends perfectly captured my curiosity to peep into the lives of the book's characters. I did find several aspects of this book coming from a very privileged point of view, in a sense that the main issues felt too 'first world' or 'white' and unrelateble.
But still i was captivated by the drama and mess of it all which left me thoroughly entertained.
The book deals with so many topics but it was handled in a way that would encourage readers to have conversations about relationships, politics, mental health etc.
Bonus points for book because the main character gets diagnosed with endometriosis because I have never read another book which dealt with this topic.

This book follows Frances’ journey as a young college student. This book is not what I thought it was when I picked it up. However, it’s not terrible, but I didn’t think it was great. A great deal of intimate moments throughout that I personally didn’t think were necessary to the storyline.

frances was painfully relatable and i really loved her despite all the secondhand embarrassment and frustration. i definitely came out of it confused and conflicted on how to feel about nick but at least i don’t completely loathe him! for now this is tied with normal people but i’m not sure if it’ll measure up beyond the short term since i really loved normal people.
