This is probably one of the few times I haven't thought twice about a rating. Because from the last three chapters alone, this book deserves (probably even more than) a five. I felt cold while my heart raced as I read the ending to this book and let me tell you, I've never felt this way before. But, it was not just the ending, but the setup. Oh, the setup. From the beginning, I knew that I was going into a work of pure excellence, from its mysteries to its reveal. And oh boy, the reveal! I partly did not want it to be true, but I kind of knew all along, and it was the perfect way to end it. And by way of a teaser, the last chapter scared me as to how different it felt from the rest of the book... you'll know what I mean.

A good murder mystery with the indomitable little man in Hercule Poirot.

Dr. Shepherd is the narrator as he takes the reader through what’s happened and what is unknown. He also plays the sort of confidant of Poirot as they carry on with who killed Roger Ackroyd. Each character is introduced, and why they could be the killer. In Christie fashion, everyone is a suspect and everyone had motive.

All her characters are unique. Especially Poirot in his arrogance, yet warmth, his mysterious behavior, yet open when questioned. I just love the little man. He’s funny and cocky as hell, boarding on too smug but his humor is on point.

As for who the murderer was, I’d guessed who it could have been but honestly had no idea if I was right. Why they did it, actually did surprise me. Good twist.

A perfectly constructed whodunit.
The solution had me smiling ear to ear, as I always am, in awe of the spectacular subtleties, sharp wit and pure cleverness of Christie. It was a true delight and a masterclass in complex theories. As always, the novel come to a perfect ending with one simple answer.

Screw you, Agatha.

Edit: Now that I have had time to process this book and write a proper review, I must admit that I am disappointed in my investigative skills. True, I suspected the criminal before they were revealed, yet for the life of my I could not figure out HOW they committed the crime. Don't you hate when the answer is staring at you in the face and your brain chooses not to see it? Christie (as usual) lulls you into a false sense of security with a misdirected narrative. I plan to reread this book with knew knowledge and really dig into her writing, which clearly has a double meaning. Lying by omission is my favorite tactic.

This is a must-read for those who love a good whodunnit. It's addictive, with great dialogue and interesting cast of characters, many of them funny. Agatha Christie is the OG of murder mystery, so if you haven't, what are you waiting for?
