Lovely age gap romance with the older man struggling with the ethics of the dynamic.

This series has been pretty spectacular all around and I am always excited when a new installment gets released. This time around we are brought back to the New York Admirals and our MCs are Kyle and Eric, a couple of characters that we met briefly in book one. It does feel a bit like this is a sequel to [b:Game Changer|40601927|Game Changer (Game Changers, #1)|Rachel Reid|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1529562942l/40601927._SY75_.jpg|60235367], which was my least favourite of the series, but still includes mention of characters from other books. Everyone's favorite bad boy Ilya Rozanov also makes a couple quick appearances as well and I cannot express just how much I appreciated it. I am absolutely gagging for the next Ilya and Shane book, but alas I digress…

Bringing it back to the current installment, I enjoyed it well enough. I liked Eric’s health consciousness and as a newbie to dating men his eagerness was adorable. Kyle seemed fun and flirty and was exactly what Eric needed to broaden his sexual horizons. Their sexual chemistry was great. Kyle’s easy flirting set the stage for what turned out to be some unexpectedly kinky, but no less enjoyable sexual encounters. It was a solid story, I just felt that it was missing a little something to really blow me away. I know this author has greatness in her as she totally blew my mind with the previous two books. I'm excited to see what more we have in store for us. I'm interested in learning more about Troy who is starring in the next book; and of course more Ilya!

So, I relistened this book to find out why it did not keep me focused, the first time. This is a so called 'slow burn' but there is no tension. For some reasons the protagonists decide not to make a move and that is it, for most of the book. I like to get offered a reason to finish a book. I mean, other than the question if the couple ends up together, which some authors make tantalizing, there is nothing here.

The narration was good but the sound quality eas not perfect. I regularly heard a low vibration buzzing underneath the low vowels.

Oof. This was maybe an even a bigger miss for me than the first in the series. And I normally love an age gap romance.

Why did this book have to start off with Kyle in love and pining after Kip? It added nothing to the story. Eric also lacked the emotional intelligence I would expect from a 41 year old man. In general, Kyle and Eric were both really cavalier with each other’s feeling (insisting to each other that they could *never* date each other) while they’re boning. Like, that’s some high school bully behavior. Not to say FWB never has a place, but it only works when you can be honest and communicate. In a romance novel, the pretending just makes both characters look like assholes.

There were plenty more issues but this story is already fading from my mind.

I bookmarked the Ilya cameo pages though. I’m not a monster.

in the first book i disliked kyle (it could have been because of the narrator, lol). but the narrator was swapped out and i actually liked him, and this book for that matter!

A light fun read. I didn't find it as compelling as books 2 and 3 in this series. The characters were fine but slightly bland.

I really liked both characters, and enjoyed Kyle in his small role in the first book, so I'm happy he got his own book. The characters have great chemistry and had a lot of realistic hurdles they had to jump (age difference, Eric not being out yet, etc) to finally get together, which I enjoyed.

Maybe where this book fell a bit flat for me is that eventually all of the books in this series just feel like they have 2 sex scenes too many.
