I like the book Escape from the Asylum because it's very fast-paced and dark.

My dad gave Escape from Asylum 3.0 stars and I'm going to have to agree with him. It's also of note that he read the whole series before this whereas I only read Asylum and that was over five years ago; I barely remember it.
The first third-to-half of the book can drag due to the monotony of the day-to-day and the attempt to build the characters, the latter of which I feel just didn't really happen. There was also a repetiveness with information that I guess was to remind us of what was happening / backgrounds, but it wasn't needed most times.
However, it starts to pick up once Ricky's "treatment" finally starts, and that's all I'll say because spoilers.
Lastly, I wasn't fond of the ending. There are quite a few unanswered questions and the action felt rushed.
All in all, it was a decent book. It had some spooky vibes, though not as much as I expected, and I'm assured by my dad that the series will answer a few of the questions I have. I think this could have worked better as a novella, though.
