Bit family drama. Ending is chilly.

This was intense. The serial killer guy, oh my god.

I adore Ian. MIRO is kinda annoying. I don’t know what else to say. This book series feels like a soap or a tv show. I didn’t really enjoy book 1, but this book was definitely more engaging.

2.5 stars.
I don't understand the high ratings these books have gotten. The story reads as one long - emotionality distanced - reciting retelling. It's just a sappy romance, and even though the characters supposedly should be tuff and gruff, have a angsty baggage, and deep personalities, I simply don't believe it. I simply don't feel it. I read book #2 because I don't understand why people like these books and thought I might have been in the wrong kind of mood to read them. But I've read 2 out of 3 now and I still don't like them. Again I must conclude I do not like Calmes writing.
I will however read/skim through the last book. Just to tie off the bow nice and nearly.

I was positively surprised by this sequel since I worried it would get boring or repetitive. It didn’t. I really love Miro and Ian as a couple—they’re so in love, so romantic and hot in a way that definitely isn’t getting old. I actually liked their “growing pains” and that they have heated arguments and some angst in there, because the make-up is oh so sweet.

The book was mostly filled with good times as far as the marshal work went, with one big exception being the psychotic serial killer part of it. I hated that. I knew it was coming, and it turned out worse than I feared. I really, really despise kidnapping twists and particularly torture. I scrolled past all of it but hearing about it after was bad enough. Absolutely horrifying. Hence my dropping the rating. At least the scum is gone now.
