Well that was incredibly sad, even though I already knew how it was going to end. The art was a bit sloppy, and sometimes there were too many panels per page, so that was a little distracting. But overall I think the emotional gaps and early parts of Laika's life were filled in well, and it sounds like overall this was a well-researched work.

Well I knew how the story ended going in, and I knew it would be sad. But it felt sad with no payoff. The art was decent, but awkward in a few places. I wasn't a fan of the beginning, since as far as I know, we don't actually know what Laika's early life was life, and to assume all that abuse and having her never have a happy life made it even sadder. I did cry, but I didn't really want to finish it. Laika's story is a story of heartbreak, and one I love, and to me this book just didn't hit the right notes. I did like seeing how she got to go home and play with the kids, and see the backlash and regret of what they had done. I think I just didn't really want to see a graphic novel full of visual depictions of a dog in pain.

What an interesting approach to such a big historic event. The format of a graphic novel is perfect for the book because it allows us to see multiple perspectives without too much whiplash and also allows us to be inside Laika's world without being inside her head. Her emotions came across so beautifully in the art. And the artwork as a whole was beautiful from the skill to the color pallets.

Overall, very emotional but helpfully informative and a good comment on our human-centered world.
