I have been working in healthcare analytics for 15+ years and this book was still a great read. Many of the challenges in American healthcare system are well documented but this book discuss possible solutions for the system and the patients. One of my favorite books in the past couple of years. I highly recommend this book, especially for those who don’t have healthcare experience.

Nice read about the inadequacies of the American medical system. I think further explanation about how the insurance field could be (technically easily, politically quite difficult) reformed would have been nice for the laypeople.

Also, the book touts GoodRx, which is not really a good idea for pharmacies... maybe for patients trying to find the cheapest drug anywhere, but pharmacies are losing money on GoodRx, and many stores (including CVS) will not accept them.

Sobering and sickening. A lot of information on the warped state of healthcare. As some who works in healthcare, it makes me feel terrible for my patients and the challenges they have to face. I’m eager to put into place the practices and suggestions of Part 2 to hopefully provide better and more informed care for my patients. Very important book to read, and I hope it sparks change in the healthcare industry!

I always knew that the American Healthcare system was garbage because of the times my mother would ring her hands every time my sister or I would get sick because we didn't have a primary care and she would have to pay an unknown amount to take us to an emergency clinic just to get some antibiotics, but hearing it laid out like this was both sickening and depressing. I'm actively trying to research the healthcare system for a book I want to write and I find it confusing despite that. I can't imagine what it's like for the average person to try and do their own research in trying to find care and understanding what their insurance will and won't pay for not to mention how copay, coinsurance and deductibles work all while they should be worrying more about themselves and their health. The healthcare industry in America is just that, an industry whose main focus is bringing in money when it should be improving the health of Americans, not sucking every penny from everyone until they are quite literally sick with worry. We are the only developed country in the world that doesn't have universal healthcare in the name of making money, how ashamed we should be for letting this happen.
