*I got this book for review from the publisher*

I thought this was adorable sequel to the first book in this series. It was a very different type of book. I loved how it was a very different type of book than the first book but still connected back. I liked how this book really took Herbie out his comfort zone alot. I like how this book had a fun mystery at its heart with new fun creature. I also liked how we learned more about herbie past. I also liked the new characters that we got to meet. It was super fast pace story and I am really excited for book 3.

Okay hands down a really good book. I enjoyed this as much as the first book. Wow so good. All the adventures inside this book dang so good.

So Herbbie and Viloet go on this crazy adventure trying to find out about the Gargantis. They find so many things. Erie writing, a fairy so many other things.

I can't wait too read the third book. I can't wait too reread this book.

Thanks to NetGalley and Candlewick Press for providing the ARC in exchange for an honest review. 4 stars

Coming back to Eeerie-on-Sea and following Herbie and Violet on another mysterious adventure felt a bit like visiting with old friends. This second instalment set in the not-so-quaint and more than a little 'eerie' seaside town was action-packed from the go and was just as exciting as the first. Although the ARC had some missing illustrations, I still loved the ones I saw and it's probably one of my favourite aspects of the books! Technically, even if you haven't read Malamander you can still read this book and you won't get lost, but why would you even wanna do that?

This was such a fun sequel! This is a magical series, with whimsical character names that remind me of food (all food in books makes me happy!) like Herbert Lemon. With just a touch of magic and sci-fi vibes, some danger and mystery, this might be a perfect intro to genred fiction for a hesitant child - and I really enjoyed the illustrations that were included, I’d be excited to see the finished product.

The sequel features the same two kiddos, Herbie, the Lost and Founder at the Grand Nautilus Hotel, and Violet, on the shores of Eerie-on-Sea, but this time things get going when a strange, hooded figure (who's more than a little fishy -- wink, wink) enters the hotel and hands over a clockwork seashell to Herbie.

Violet, who's forever jumping into things without thinking about them, uses a key that's in Herbie's collection of lost things to wind it up, like a music box, and...out springs a snipping, stabbing, horrible little hermit crab, that shaves the (talking) cat!

And it's downhill from there. Herbie thinks he sees a THING, a really big THING, swimming in the storm that's been raging for days now, and there's even a fisherman's ditty about it, calling it the Gargantis.

Then Mrs. Fossil, a driftwood and shell collector, staggers out of the rain and wind with an ancient, glowing bottle in her arms. A near-brawl breaks out in the lobby over it, with fishermen, Dr. Thalassi (who runs the town museum), Mrs. Fossil and a missing fisherman's nephew arguing over who it belongs to.

The indomitable Lady Kraken enters the lobby (and the fray) and breaks up the dispute by declaring it's Herbie's responsibility, as the Hotel's Lost and Founder, to get to the bottom of who's got the best claim to it.

And Herbie's off on his next creature-feature adventure, for which he'll have to get over his fear and do something he's avoided doing since washing up on shore so many years ago -- get in a boat.
But just like last time, he's got more to fear from the people around him than the monsters lurking in Eerie-on-Sea.

I won't spoil the ending, or the twist, but it was a great read! Enjoy!
