I received a copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Why did I prefer this to Book 1? I'll tell you... I don't know.

(That was a reference to this musical and I thought it was hilarious. Did anyone else catch the joke?)
It wasn't the plot that I preferred. Unlike Book 1, there was no big, confusing mystery for me to figure out.
The plot was still interesting, and I enjoyed reading about the attempts to save a dragon, but there was nothing to try to intently figure it out. That is something that I preferred in the first book.
I think that the reason I preferred Book 2 was that I found myself wanting to go back to continue reading it.
I'm beginning to enjoy the characters more and I enjoyed their interactions quite a bit in this book. It was rather difficult for me to remember who was who while reading Book 1, but that wasn't the case in Book 2.
The thing that stood out most to me as I was reading was how well the author developed the rules of magic in this universe, as well as how well he developed the dragon folklore that played a large role in the story.
On a whole, I think the series (so far) is well developed and interesting. The characters I have found to be likable, and the plot creative.
I prefer it to the Secret Series, which I stopped reading halfway through. I'd be interested in reading the last book in this, what I believe to be, trilogy.

Probably the weakest of this trilogy in terms of plot and believable character development, but overall enjoyable and lighthearted. Plus dragons!
This book was cute and I really liked the adventure of the story. This was a nice pick up from the last book and I cannot wait to move on to the next book.

3.5 stars!
Personally, I liked this installment more than the first in the series; I found the plot a lot more interesting and engaging. That being said, it does not reach 4 stars for me, as there is a lack of depth in all of the characters and the story is very predictable.
I imagine this book would be really exciting for younger readers, particularly since all of the main characters in the series are about 12 years old.

This series is entertaining for sure and keeps the kids’ attention while we read. Glad to have found it, though now we are going to have to go back and read “The Secret” series by the same author when we finish.
Fun and fantasy by the dragon breath. Clay and his friends come to the rescue of a dragon being hunted by a mysterious group. Includes a cruise ship, volcano, caves, tunnels and magic. Suitable for 8-12 year olds.
I honestly wasn't planning on reading this second book because I felt so meh about the first one, but when I pulled it off my shelf to pass it on, I saw it was about dragons, so I decided to give it a try. I enjoyed the plot of this book a lot more than I did the first one. But I still feel like there's so much about the world that the reader isn't told that I just got really frustrated with that aspect (the magic and the two societies). It was opened up a little bit toward the end, but not enough for me to want to read any more of this series. It definitely is not super friendly toward people who haven't read the Secret series that clearly comes before this.
