finally finished this today and whatta comfort read it was! keeping this for future reread. Kiki’s adventures came to me at a time when I have to leave my own comfort city of 9yrs and stay at a completely new one where I don’t know anyone, no friends, no gym but here I am still adjusting the best I can. I got so much strength and (peace) from this book because Kiki tells us that no matter where you are, (you bring your own sunshine) and that is your home. Let the city unravel itself for you. So here’s to me embracing Ortigas and owning it for the next 2 yrs. Let’s fly!

dozed off quite a bit while listening to this but it's a cute story about a seaside witch with a delivery service, her cat was very sassy though

So happy I finally got to read this. It’s a short read but is a charming and warm coming of age story.

I’ve been in love with the movie since catching it on Disney Channel one afternoon when I was younger, and the book evokes the same feeling of sunny and quiet nostalgia. The movie deviates quite a bit from the book but both can be enjoyed hand in hand. And this book has some adorable illustrations included too.

Kiki testing herself and developing her independence is the best part of this story. It also gently explores the wistfulness and bittersweet feeling of leaving home, missing family, and finding a space and community to flourish on your own. Kiki’s journey is about finding herself and rising above her obstacles, not about being involved in a love triangle or relationship drama which is always welcome. It’s also great to find helpful and friendly witches compared to the lustful, vengeful, or grotesque ones so popular in culture.

I hope the rest of the series gets translated and released as I would love to read about Kiki‘s continuing adventures since this one seemed to end abruptly and set the stage for much more to come.
