I hadn’t read this book since school but it really held up! It was the first book I remember reading about race.

This was a great book. I'm so sad I hadn't read it long long ago!

I read this book as my daughter is reading it for English. I really enjoyed it. The authors note explained this is based on stories her family told her. It was a hard read but really good.

An absolutely brilliant book. Out of all the books I studied in school this was definitely my favourite, definitely one book I would read for a non-educational purpose.
It had such a brilliant tale and was all based on some sort of reality.

I read this book in 8th grade and is still one of the few books I enjoyed that I had to read in elementary, middle, and high school. I may have failed a lot of the reading quizzes because they all were at 7 am and I don’t remember much of anything at that time, but I do remember enjoying it a lot.

This book has a heavy story for having won the Newberry. An incredible journey and should be required reading.

I liked this more now than I did 30 years ago. This was for the 2023 Popsugar challenge.

Very moving book and great look into a part of history so rarely discussed with YA.
