I am so happy she decided to finish the series with Ash's story. He was so tortured and even if he could have survived in the iron kingdom he needed to take this journey to let go of his past and the person he was. I laughed and cried on his journey. I enjoyed all the old characters and the reintroduction of the wolf. Ariella was complex but likeable even though I was determined not to, being such a huge fan of Meghan. She won me over because her feelings and reactions were very human but ultimately she was selfless. I would have given 5 stars but I wanted more of Meghan and Ash's reunion at the end being a total sucker for the two of them together. I also wish Puck would have found someone or something to give him a happy ending too.

Gahhh!!

I can't believe the series is over! The journey that Ash goes through broke my heart at some points, but, of course, it was for the best. I just wish I knew more of what happened to Puck.

After two and a half books, Meghan Chase finally found a voice, strength, determination, and a resolution to yet another angsty teenage love triangle. Thus it makes sense that the fourth and final book in the Iron Fey series is told from Ash' perspective and manages to turn the formerly strong and witty fairy prince into a whiny, indecisive, struggling teenage girl. Yes girl - I'm fairly certain no boy (or fairy prince) has ever fallen prey to that much in your head navel gazing. And don't get me started on the love triangle. Seriously? Again? I was downright fuming when it took two-thirds of the book for Ash to realize that it wasn't only his vow that made him continue his quest. For a guy who loved Meghan sooooo much, he sure made a great impression of someone just going through the motions so he wouldn't unravel into non-existence if he didn't. Sheesh.
The writing was repetitive and contained far too many descriptions of yet another walk through another wood in the dim twilight with yet another monster attacking.
The few good points were Puck and the witty banter at the end. I was so relieved to wt to that ending that I almost gave the book three stars; although I realized that three funny lines and a kiss at the end don't make up for the lack of magic in the book.

This book had a very different feel to it than the first three books in the series. Mainly because we are experiencing it from a completely new point of view this time, as it is written in the first person, from Ash's perspective.

I was left satisfied with how the series ended. I would have perhaps liked the epilogue to have included a wee glimpse into the future to see if things went as expected, but I guess I'll just have to fill in those blanks myself. Overall, I have greatly enjoyed this series and can only applaud Julie Kagawa's ability to build whole worlds in my imagination with just a few simple sentences. The world-building in this series has been some of the best I have ever experienced and I look forward to seeing what she comes up with next.
