This is a book from early in Nora Roberts' career. As such, I found the story to be a bit rushed, especially compared to her more recent novels. While we get something me decent insight into Cilla's character, we get almost none into Boyd's.

It was a good first experience for me of this author and she wrote over 160 books! I will be reading her again.

An older Nora, so the cigarettes and the music tastes were all over it, but tbh, I haven't seen anyone do reluctant-to-get-involved heroines the way Nora does it. I adore how her heroes are always falling first and always patiently (or not so patiently) coaxing the heroines to get over their issues..

All in all, fun, quick and engrossing.

Cilia O'Roarke is a Radio DJ who starts receiving disturbing phone calls that threaten her life. Despite her protest, her boss enlists the help of two detectives. While she continues to get threatening phone calls Boyd Fletcher, a detective on her case decides that Cilia is one hell of a woman. Cilia has a bias against cops and wants nothing to do with him because of his profession.

Roberts takes us on a suspenseful tale where we find out what is in Cilia's past that warrants such threats. In the midst of this threat, her walls are broken down by a man she didn't think could get through. As a Roberts novel includes, we get a suspenseful story with the quality of romance.

A surprising foe that we wouldn't have guessed has an invested interest and painful reason to exact revenge on Cilia. It's only with the threat of the life of the one she loves, does she truly embrace her feelings and acceptance of his profession.
