Unfortunately, while the first two of the trilogy seemed to be written back to back, this book does not follow the trend. In fact, the author almost committed the worst sin an author can make; writing himself into the story. Kristoff walked the line and while he didn't write himself in the story, he did reference and mock his own writing style when he
Spoiler put his books into the story, have his characters read the same books we are, and used them as plot tools
. The romance was wonderful and well placed in the first book, but the romances started in Godsgrave seemed forced to start and continued only to feel like mashed (not grinding, that would imply too much cohesion) gears.
Spoiler Nothing like having a awkward living-then-dead love triangle where the boy kills himself a second time to let the other two girls come back to life to let them forever in a "cabin by a lake" while he's moping alone in the underworld!

The trilogy will end with this book, there's definitely nothing else, and that's arguably for the better.

¡Y ahora me pongo a insultar!

Freakin amazing. My mind is blown, Jay Kristoff, you are the man. It was an epic conclusion, I had no idea where it would go. Was I happy with the wrap up? NO. But it has nothing to do with the writing or the storyline. I am seriously sad that this ended. Mia Corvere is up in the Favorite Characters category. I'd like to have a drink with that bi@tch.

I wondered how this magnificent trilogy would end and was not at all disappointed. Author does not cease to amaze with ability to stretch stories over so many different genres while also bending them to keep it new, with characters you not only want to know more about but appreciate their sins as much as their virtues. Mia was certainly one of many vices but oh by the goddess in this world, you cheered on every little piece of carnage until the beautiful end.

Plusy:

All I have to say is this: "You never know what can break you until you're falling apart. You never miss your shadow until you're lost in the dark."
This book will be dearly remembered. This series will be dearly remembered.
