this is a beautiful book that, although a fine spark for the imagination of a child about the Ancient Egyptian world, is really not a very good educational resource

This book has some beautiful illustrations in it, and a lot of the interactive features - such as fold-out diagrams and booklets of hieroglyphics - make it really enjoyable to read. This book would be perfect if it went more for the facts and less for the spooky-disappearing-expedition vibe, because if that part's truth is questionable, then I'm naturally going to question the "facts" about Egypt that I'm reading. I think that the interactive, highly visual nature of this book would be well applied to a purely factual book, because let's face it, learning is a lot more fun when it's so stunningly visual as well.

This was the perfect book for me as a kid. I had a huge interest in Ancient Egypt and Egyptian mythology and devoured everything in my primary school library related to the subject.
I ran across this book and fell in love instantly. The information is presented in a fun and interactive way and could keep me engaged for hours. I went on to read the rest of this series and really enjoyed all of them.

Whilst I am fully aware that I am a fair years above the intended audience age range, I feel it necessary to say that, though the information was clear and concise, it felt simplified and made up of things I already knew. It is a lovely, colourful introduction to Egypt and it's history, but on occasion it was simply too childish. I also found the cursive script very difficult to read at times. I've no doubt any one with a larger desire then my own to learn about Egypt will not reach for this particular book, but as a starter to get children, or indeed adults who are reluctant to learn, in to the history of such a vast and wonderful culture and religion, it is a good start.

Tabii biz, ansiklopedi okuyarak büyüyen son nesiliz belki. Ama keşke benim çocukluğumda da olsaydı bu gibi kitaplar. Ansiklopediden daha yararlı olabilirdi.

Super fun to read and think about. I actually knew nothing about the search for the Tomb of Osiris and am more interested in learning about the mythology/history of that!
As far as the book goes, I think it is great for elementary-aged children. I don't recommend getting both the handbook and this book, as they contain mostly the same information and illustrations, except this also includes notes about Emily Sands' journey.
