I consulted this book when I was doing art historical research, and the new information it contains is very valuable! Panel paintings, reliefs and sculptures of the Madonna and Child were omnipresent in early Renaissance Italy, yet there are few pieces of literature that contextualise them in a way as efficient and detailed as this book's. Common misconceptions concerning Renaissance piety are done away with, creating a much better understanding of the people of the time and their actions. This volume accompanied a corresponding exhibition at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, and the museum uploaded videos that perfectly compliment the book as well. They can be found on vimeo - one for each section of the book. I can only recommend it!
