It's so fun reading a book set in Sacramento! Its a city that I have spent lots of time in, especially the Pocket area where Melina's parents live. I can totally picture all the places that Melina went in the book.

3.5 stars. This was a little slow, but still enjoyable.

I'm not loving the cover, Melina looks completely different from her previous covers and I just cant picture her like that. Thankfully I can overlook the cover and still really enjoyed DEAD LETTER DAY.

The fact that Paul has disappeared and none of the other Were's are looking for him sends Melina out to figure out what is really going on. The mystery of what was really going on was well written and the idea of killer cows was quite interesting lol. There isn't as much action as in previous books but DEAD LETTER DAY is still full of suspense and Melina has some new emotions to work through and figure out. She finds herself getting mushy and sentimental more and it was interesting to watch the change in her. Melina's relationship with Ted definitely gets ramped up a bit when news comes their way, I figured out the hints early on but it was still fun going through the motions until Melina actually figured it out. I really enjoyed Melina's mom in book 3. I think we get a little inside to why she is like she is and their relationship with each other has changed for the better. Melina still tends to put herself in danger more then needed but I have a feeling that she might be more accepting of the help of others from now on.

With so many questions still on my mind and so much more story left to read I'm excited to see where things lead to next for not only Melina but also for her family and friends. I have enjoyed the Messenger world and would suggest starting from the beginning if you are new to the series.

Admittedly, book 3 of the series probably wasn't the best place to start, but in my defence I had no idea it was book 3 until I got home from the library. Sigh.

Anyway, this was a fun world. It took me a little while to get my head around everything because there's not a lot of world building and I had to try and muddle my way through the relationships and the characters (see also: BOOK THREE. DAMMIT, PAST SELF. WHY DON'T YOU CHECK THESE THINGS BEFORE YOU BORROW BOOKS???). But once I sorted all of that out, it was a pretty fun read. There were a couple of times where I thought Melina was insanely clueless and I just wanted to yell at her, but for the most part she's a pretty kickass main character.

The ending felt rushed - there was very little progress made in the first 230 pages, and then ALL THE PROGRESS crammed into the last 50 pages. So the pacing was a little wonky, but for the most part it was enjoyable. I'm not sure I'd actively go looking for the other books in the series, but if I happened to stumble across them, I wouldn't say no.

A little on the obvious side with some of the clues, but overall an entertaining read. Haven't read the rest of the series, but most stuff was explained well enough to catch up quickly.
