This is my book club’s choice for October. This one has been doing it’s rounds all over the book community with everyone raving about it. I think this is going to be one of the books that goes round as it’s the best thing since sliced bread and it’s every overhyped.
This book has two points of view. The first is Jeanie, her aunt has gifted her the beloved Pumpkin Spice Café in the small town of Dream Harbor. Jeanie jumps at the chance for a fresh start away from her dull desk job in Boston after her boss had a heart attack at his desk and died. The second point of view is Logan. He is a local farmer who wants to avoid Dream Harbor’s gossip at all costs after a failed and very public marriage proposal. However, Jeanie’s arrival disrupts Logan’s routine, and he wants nothing to do with the upbeat new girl, except that he finds himself drawn to her. Will Jeanie’s happy-go-lucky attitude wins over the grumpy-but-gorgeous Logan or has this city girl found the one person in town who won’t fall for her charm, or her pumpkin spice lattes.
This book is a good autumn book, and it does great at describing the autumny and small-town vibes, everyone all up in each other's business and meddling within everyone’s love lives, it was all an adorable Hallmark movie. I love the dual POV, and it was an easy read, so it didn’t require a lot of brain power at all which I liked especially whilst I was reading multiple books and reading fantasy at the same time. Jeanie was funny and I loved her personality. I did like the aspect of someone messing with the café even though it was quite predictable on who was messing with the café. I would have killed for that to get a bit more mysterious and a bit more violent than a broken windows and messing with the rubbish. I did like the found family aspect especially with the girls going straight into and inviting Jeanie into the book club and the town meeting and everything.
One of the worse things in books is the miscommunication trope which is literally the underlying theme in this book. Logan thinks he is nuts for falling in love with someone he’s just met which is he. He feels like she is going to leave because she’s only been in town for a month so every time, they get too close, he wants to run away I usually love a broken and traumatized man, but this time it was making me want to punch him in the face. Jeanie is also questioning life because a man is being kind to her, and she’s not had a relationship in a while. Again, the standard is on the floor. The insta-love just makes me want to puke.
I really want to know more with the friendship group especially because all of the friendship had a spark of love interests within this book alone.
