Not my favorite work from Karin but a good addition to the Will Trent series overall. I enjoyed the book's exploration of learning disabilities and how the foster care system can impact one's childhood and therefore their adult lives. Not really gagged by Will and Angie Polanski's relationship but luckily Karin seems to be just as disinterested in developing them as I am in reading about them!

Started reading hardcover from the library, finished on Kindle while traveling (it's very chunky to carry around)

Not enjoying Will Trent as much as I enjoyed Grant County. Hoping the series picks up in the next book or I might DNF the series

A good crime novel with some good twists. It’s a bit slow to start but the last third moves a lot quicker.

Karin knows how to write a thriller what can I say. I love Slaughter's work because it has tact. Yes, there is violence, but it is not just for the sake of violence. There is social commentary in her books that is hard to find in the thriller genre. Besides that, I just love Will Trent and all his awkwardness. He's such a breath of fresh air that breaks the stereotypical hyper-masculine, ball-busting cop character. Also I have a crush on him. I took off a star because there were some iffy comments about trans women towards the end that I didn't think were really necessary.
