Loved it the first time around. Haven't read it since though, since I only read English books now. But it was one of my favourites when I was younger.

I cut this one off early. Every character is an awful fantasy. I hate that the father spends so much time thinking about how hot his daughter is. Not into the irresistible sexy ex wife who inexplicably trades her wild free love lifestyle for this shy boring man, or how the only thing he likes about her is how sex-able she is.

I really really hate that the black man is described as a "bull" with a "wide, predator-like lower jaw", and that he sells his gym and gives his life to the sad white man and calls him sir.

I don't think the author is going to come through with anything insightful on race or colonialism or how women can be anything other than sexy or tragic, so I'm done.

PS I flipped to the end and it looks like this book gets extremely weird.
