I loved this book. The wendigo legend is indeed compelling. I learned quite a bit. Also saw how much Will was growing in his character development. And saw how little Pellinore's character grew, if at all. It is a wonderful sequel to the first. The writing as good as ever. I'm not sure which one I liked better.

Terrifying, disturbing, exhilarating. Yancey is really, really good at this whole writing thing.

This took me a while (almost 2 years oops) to complete because I got sidetracked by other books...... Anyway, it was satisfyingly gruesome, making the Wendigo quite possibly one of the most savage monsters in mythology. However, the narrative was not as tightly wound as the first installment. While the first was packed with action from start to end, this one tapered after about three-quarters through, only to pick up slightly at the last few pages. Still, points for depicting such a terrifying monster.

The monstrous act by definition demands a monster.

I have VERY mixed feelings about this book, even more so than the first one. I loved the first book simply for the fact that it was super creepy, gripping, and was actual horror. This one was a lot more...disturbing. It was very gruesome, which I love. It's totally twisted, but I love gory stuff! And this one was the goriest of the gory. I mean, there was a certain scene close to the end that had me all

I think if the whole book had been like that I would have enjoyed it a lot more. The scenes where things were actually happening were engrossing. The rest of the scenes? SO. FREAKING. BORING. So boring, in fact, that I literally fell asleep reading. There were pages upon pages of mindless drivel that read like a textbook. I actually almost DNFed it because I was so incredibly bored! I ended up skimming a good 80 pages of the book because nothing was happening. It took me nearly 100 pages in the beginning to get into it before something exciting finally happened. I will say, though, that the last 100 pages were pretty much non-stop action!

I'm not sure at this point if I'll continue with the series or not, as the slow parts really killed my enjoyment of the rest of the book.

An amazing and absolutely thrilling (chilling) read! This one crept into my nightmares once (really!), so I definitely recommend that you don't read it before bed!

I mean, Rick Yancey wrote this. It's a given it was going to be gold. Loved it. Loved the pace. Loved the setting. Loved the introduction of new characters. Loved the description of events. Still had parts that absolutely creeped me out, that chilled me to the bone. It was the perfect sequel in THE MONSTRUMOLOGIST series.
