So... this second part took me for a ride. Finding out what happened to Onyx and why was so emotional. The story got me caught up from the first page. I love Tati's faith in Onyx, in what they felt for each other, no matter what was happening. There was so much going on, but never too much that you forgot that it was about them--about Tati and Onyx. About Onyx confronting his past, but also realizing Tati and her safety was a brand new reason to burn the world down. And about Tati realizing that her world was one more violent than she even thought, but that Onyx could quiet the noise.
The lore of the Roses and Thorns was a great storyline. Psychological torture, assassins, and revenge do make for interesting plot points. But above all it was a love story, and a family story. Alicia was the saving grace Onyx needed, and Brandon had his moments but still was big brother when it counted. Onyx's feelings of worthlessness caught my heartstrings and Tati's struggles to make him see that he was worth saving were relatable and heart-wrenching on their own.
I'd take this ride again. Any day. Good work.
