I went into this book COMPLETELY blind, I had read the blurb so I knew from that immediately that this book was right up my alley. The banter in this book is just *chefs kiss*. I can honestly say when I started reading the book I DESPISED Romeo Costa Jr., his arrogance, his whole attitude/demeanor, I was just over it...but man oh man did that turn around for me. This story is a slow burn, enemies to lovers story in the best way. It gave me very much Beauty and the Beast, Romeo and Juliet vibes. I love that Dallas, although young and very inexperienced in life, knew how to, despite vehemently hating him in the beginning, break down that huge wall Romeo had towards life. I'm a big dark romance reader and while this isn't "dark" per se, it has its moments and it definitely kept me intrigued and on edge of "will they, wont they" until the very end.

1.75 stars I know I should have DNF'ed but again, I am trying to push through and not DNF. The story revolved around Dallas and Romeo. Dallas is a rich Southern Belle who is bound to marry someone else and after being found in a compromised situation with Romeo, she is forced to break up with said fiance to marry Romeo. No, Dallas did not have a close relationship with her fiance because it was basically an arranged marriage. However, Romeo has these grand plans for vengeance and did not care to have Dallas be collateral in his plot. Romeo most definitely had the emotional IQ of a robot and I am being generous. There is age-gap between them of almost 10 years which was not clear until probably past the 50% mark of the book. I don't really mind an age-gap but Romeo was awful, mean or just a full on a**hole to the Dallas and belittled everything about her. I felt like they did Dallas a disservice and just made her seem very superficial and without any depth. It was like these two barely had any real connection and when they finally recognized there may be something there it was in seconds hahaha! I also don't necessarily mind when there is dubious consent but this one just felt off. Dallas was a virgin, Romeo knew and he was just a terrible partner. So yeah, the "spicy scenes" that everyone raves about were not great at all.
The side characters were much more likeable than the MCs and they basically appeared through text message HAHAHA! Anyway, I will not continue to rant about this story because I will give it all away if I keep on going since every other page I was eyerolling. I don't know how people recommended this book so much. Save yourself and pass on this one.
