Wolves and cats are my thing. So when I found out that Nalini Singh would write about bears, I must admit, I was a bit skeptical. Yes, I know that there are many species of changelings, but I still wasn't expecting that. That is because even though I know that bears can be very dangerous, I always imagine a big and fluffy ball of fur that wobbles around in search of food. Well... this book destroyed silly thoughts such as these.

I really enjoyed the beginning of the Psy-Changeling Trinity. However, I would not recommend this book to newbies, they would feel overwhelmed. This is not only about steamy romance, there is a political background that would be hard to follow if you haven't read at least some of the prequels from the Psy-Changeling series.

All in all, I really enjoyed the whole story, the main and supporting characters. There is nothing in particular that I disliked.
I will only say this - you will love Valentin. He is not the overbearing, annoying alpha. He is sweet, patient but also very protective and brave. I think that is the perfect combination.

engaging This was the book that made our kitten very happy, because she had her human beside her for longer as I read "a few more pages" before getting up properly.
Silver Mercant lives with absolute control over her life, after all her life depends on it. Valentin Nikolaev is a were-bear and determined to disrupt her regular life. Thankfully so when she keels over from poisoning he's on the scene and able to help ensure that things aren't as bad as they could be. Afterwards he brings her to the Bear home and they find out how much they mean to each other.
The roadbumps are interesting and I liked how things were resolved.
