I have not red all that many Peter Straub books, but from what I can gather Timothy Underhill is a reoccurring character in Mr. Straub's books. Although apparently they are not an actual series and it is not necessary to read them in order, because in this book Tim Underhill is a 50's something man there is a lot of history that is only touched upon in the book, I felt like I was missing something while reading this book. It did not really effect my ability to enjoy this particular story line, but I feel I missed some character development as far as Mr. Underhill and his family was concerned.

The plot for this story is a little convoluted just because there is a book inside a book, and at one point there is even a third book. If all this sounds a little confusing.... well it was a first, but once I realized what was going on, it was an easy enough plot and I LOVED the premise of this story. It had a very [b:The Neverending Story|27712|The Neverending Story|Michael Ende|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1554230952l/27712._SY75_.jpg|1122661], or [b:Inkheart|28194|Inkheart (Inkworld, #1)|Cornelia Funke|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1538266636l/28194._SX50_.jpg|2628323]. Not in plot, but in tone and premise.

I think I will have to go back and read more about Mr. Timothy Underhill, I found him a compelling character and would like to knw more about him.

Oh my GOODNESS, I have not been so irritated with a book in a LONG time! (I haven't even been this annoyed since I read "The Good Guy" by Dean Koontz!) Don't get me wrong, this book started out pretty good. I was excited to read more about Tim Underhill after reading "Lost Boy Lost Girl." However, after about half of the book, I was starting to wonder about the point of the plot. Peter Straub did nothing to explain anything about what was going on and, while it made references to the other book, it didn't explain anything further about THAT either! The end of the book (I won't spoil it, should you choose to frustrate yourself by reading it) was POINTLESS! At the very least, there should have been some closure, but there wasn't. It just...stopped. The characters, other than Willy and Tim, weren't explained or developed at all and there was so much going on that just made you scratch your head and say, "What was the point to all of that?" It had SO much potential to be a great book and a fitting sequel, but it tripped and fell into a pile of manure at the end! What's more, it's like it completely negated the end of the other book! Just...ARGH!
